Photography from the perspective of an Enneagram 6
As an Enneagram 6, it may seem unlikely for me to want to pursue a photography career, yet I am here to tell you it is possible and makes logical sense. This post explains photography from my perspective, the perspective of an Enneagram 6.
Photography success involves perseverance and dedication: to build a portfolio, establish a client base, or work on long-term projects. As Enneagram 6s, we find that our loyalty and commitment to the job is what allows this to work. The dedication we have to the craft ensures we consistently produce high-quality work and build lasting relationships with clients and collaborators.
Photography, particularly in professional settings, requires careful planning and organization. Whether it's scouting locations, scheduling shoots, or preparing equipment, being well-prepared is crucial. As Type 6s, our natural inclination to anticipate potential challenges and plan accordingly allows us to grow to be excellent photographers who can adapt to various situations and ensure the smooth execution of our projects.
Photography demands a keen eye for detail, from composing the perfect shot to editing and post-processing images. As Type 6s, we have found that our meticulous nature ensures we capture every nuance and detail in our photographs, resulting in visually stunning and technically precise images. This is one of my main strengths and one of the reasons my photography has progressed as well as it has.
Building strong connections with clients, models, and fellow creatives is vital in the photography industry. Enneagram 6s' emphasis on trust and relationships allows us to create a comfortable and collaborative atmosphere during photoshoots. I mean, aren’t we typed as The Loyalist? The rapport we create can lead to more authentic and emotive photographs, as subjects feel at ease and trust our vision.
While anxiety and doubt can be challenging, especially for our type, it can also lead us to seek continuous improvement and validation in our work. This pursuit of excellence can push us to refine our skills, stay updated with industry trends, and consistently produce high-quality work. Additionally, our ability to anticipate potential issues allows us to troubleshoot and adapt quickly, ensuring successful outcomes even in unexpected situations.
The genres I focus on are nature, landscape, and automotive photography. There are many reasons for this, but I stand by the fact that my type helps to enhance my ability to create art in this imagery.
As Enneagram 6s, we are naturally inclined to documentary photography, which involves telling stories through images, often highlighting social, environmental, or cultural issues. Our strong sense of responsibility and commitment to the causes we care most about make us passionate and dedicated documentary photographers. Our ability to build trust with subjects and communities allows us to capture intimate and powerful stories, shedding light on important issues and driving change.
Landscape photography requires patience and planning. Our preparedness and meticulous nature make us well-suited for capturing the beauty and grandeur of natural landscapes. Our ability to anticipate weather conditions, lighting, and other environmental factors ensures we are always ready to capture the perfect shot, resulting in breathtaking and awe-inspiring images.
Automotive photography, often associated with commercial work, involves creating images for advertising, marketing, and branding purposes. This genre demands creativity, precision, and the ability to collaborate with clients and creative teams. Our attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work make us excellent automotive photographers. Our ability to build strong relationships with clients ensures we understand and fulfil the creative vision, resulting in impactful and visually appealing images.
Enneagram 6s may struggle with self-doubt and seek validation from others. To overcome this challenge, it's essential to build confidence in our skills and trust our creative instincts. Seeking constructive feedback, attending workshops, and continuously honing our craft can help boost our self-assurance and reduce anxiety.
Photography can be a high-pressure career, with tight deadlines and demanding clients. Enneagram 6s can manage stress and anxiety by developing healthy coping mechanisms, such as mindfulness practices, exercise, and maintaining a work-life balance. Building a support network of fellow photographers and industry professionals can also provide reassurance and encouragement during challenging times.
While Type 6s prefer stability and security, the photography industry often involves taking risks and embracing uncertainty. To thrive in this environment, Enneagram 6s can focus on building resilience and adaptability. Taking calculated risks, experimenting with new techniques, and stepping out of our comfort zone can lead to personal and professional growth.
Ultimately, Enneagram 6s' passion for their craft and dedication to producing high-quality work make us exceptional photographers who can capture the beauty and essence of the world around us. By embracing our strengths and working through our challenges, Enneagram 6s can build fulfilling and successful careers in the dynamic and ever-evolving field of photography.
